Since its founding in 1982, the SVH Foundation has raised more than six million dollars from individual donors, charitable foundations and corporations to enhance medical services, equipment and programs, and to help cover the Hospital’s cost of caring for patients who could otherwise not afford to pay.
Each year, we are able to make significant contributions to the Hospital to help it meet its most urgent needs. Here are some recent examples of projects that have been funded by the Foundation:
- “Every Woman Counts”: Each month, the Foundation underwrites the cost of providing mammography services to uninsured and under-insured women.
- Bed replacement: The Foundation has replaced over 30 antiquated hospital beds with new, state-of-the-art beds, thereby significantly increasing the comfort and safety of patients and their caregivers.
- InSight Surgical Mini C- arm for the emergency department and operating room: This purchase replaced old equipment that needed frequent repair. With the new equipment, the hospital is able to provide safer and more consistent care to orthopedic patients.
How you can help
There are several ways you can give. Donations of every type and amount are needed and appreciated.
Gifts of Cash
The simplest way of supporting Sonoma Valley Hospital is by making an outright gift of cash. You can do so by returning this donation form with your payment. If you choose, you may make your donation in honor of or in memory of a loved one. Your gift can be unrestricted and applied to wherever the need is greatest, or you can designate your gift to support a specific program.
Are you a Grateful Patient? If you wish to express gratitude for the care you or a loved one received at Sonoma Valley Hospital, a gift to the Foundation is a meaningful way to thank your doctor, nurse or other staff while honoring the work they do. Whether it was as simple as a kind word and understanding smile or as significant as a life-saving procedure that made your visit to Sonoma Valley Hospital extraordinary, we would love to hear about it.
Matching Gifts
Double or triple the impact of your gift! Many companies have a matching gift program that matches part or all of their employee’s gifts to charities. Contact your Human Resources Department to see if your company offers a matching gift program.
Real Estate
A gift of real estate that has grown in value since you purchased it provides the same tax advantage as cash and possibly more. As an example, you may give a remainder interest in your residence to the Foundation while retaining the right to live there for your lifetime. You receive an income tax deduction in the year the deed is executed and eliminate any gift tax or estate tax on the property.
Gifts of Securities
Gifts of appreciated securities such as stocks and bonds offer substantial tax advantages, such as forgiveness of the tax on capital gains and a charitable income tax deduction for their fair market value. In order to maximize your capital gains savings, we encourage you to transfer securities directly to the Foundation rather than selling them and then making a cash donation.
Planned Gifts
By remembering Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation in your estate plans, you can leave a meaningful mark on the hospital’s work that spans beyond your years. In fact, many donors find that through bequests, they are able to make a significant philanthropic commitment more comfortably than doing so during their lifetimes. Many types of planned and life income gifts also offer benefits to donors and their families in addition to the charitable support provided to the hospital.
Your donation to the Foundation is greatly appreciated and will be acknowledged with a thank you note receipt that can be used for tax purposes at the end of the year. We encourage you to seek advice from your personal legal/tax counsel in determining your individual charitable tax deductions.
