Integrative Medicine - New Hope and Healing

Hal Broderick Healing Garden

Integrative Medicine is a partnership between practitioners of conventional medicine and those of complementary and alternative modalities. Our Integrative Medicine Program at Sonoma Valley Hospital brings together the best of both worlds to produce a patient-centered, patient-driven team of healthcare providers. We emphasis use of natural approaches to maintain wellness and help the body heal itself. Partnering this approach with traditional, western medicine and technology is an integral part of our paradigm. Conditions that are often treated by this integrative approach include chronic pain and headaches, anxiety and depression, allergies, women’s health and wellness, stress related disorders, back pain, tinnitus, inflammation, and hormonal imbalances.

At Sonoma Valley Hospital, the Integrative Medicine Program is comprised of a diverse network of clinicians. Several specialties practice in the hospital itself, including massage therapy, acupuncture,  psychological services, biofeedback and nutritional counseling.

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is a 3000 year old system that heals disease by helping to naturally bring the body back into balance. Our in-house acupuncturist, Robert Greenstein, L.Ac. has more than 20 years experience successfully treating a wide variety of problems such as fatigue, insomnia, pain, anxiety and depression with a special emphasis on women’s health and fertility. Massage Therapy can successfully treat a number of physical ailments from back pain and sciatica to chronic muscle tension headaches and carpal-tunnel symptoms. Therapeutic Massage is provided by Nationally Certified Massage Therapist Lori Bremer who is credentialed to practice in Sonoma Valley hospital with both in and outpatients. Research has shown that therapeutic massage can deliver a range of health benefits including lowering blood pressure, boosting the immune system, relieving stress/tension and increasing muscular range of motion. Healing Psychology and Mental Health Services help with pain management, anxiety, depression and other conditions that reflect the Mind/Body connection. These services are provided on-site by Patricia Brooks, LCSW, PhD. These services reflect a partnership between Western Medicine and the individual’s own healing resources. The use of clinical hypnosis, cognitive behavioral therapy and brief solutions oriented therapy are all common tools used with this approach. Click here for more information.

Biofeedback can often help with headaches, hypertension, insomnia, Raynaud’s Syndrome, Chronic Pain, Bell’s Palsy, Anxiety and stress, and many other uncomfortable conditions. Biofeedback is a tool used to monitor certain physiological activities so we can learn to change our physical responses. The signals monitored by the biofeedback instrument include heart rate, skin temperature, respiration, sweat glad activity in the hands, and electrical activity in the muscles. Nutrition Counseling can help individuals take a look at how they can make a positive impact on the quality of their lives by simple changes in how they eat. Nutritional counseling explores the food and mood connection as well as looking at lifestyle, weight management, hormone related issues, blood sugar disorders, digestive disorders and food sensitivities.
