May is Better Speech and Hearing Month

The month of May is a time to raise public awareness, knowledge and understanding of our complex capabilities of speech, language and voice, and the various ways in which these faculties may become impaired.  Dawn Kuwahara, Director of Professional Services says, “Let us celebrate and recognize and honor our speech therapists who dedicate themselves to their patients’ better communication.”

This is also Nurses Week, and Chief Nursing Officer Goni Naidoo, says, “This is a time to celebrate the spirit of nursing all over this country. “Nursing as a concept is inherent in all of us,” she says, “as we listen with compassion, lend a hand to a stranger, and give generously of our time and resources and feel with our hearts the pain of another. As we reach out without prejudice to make this world a better one by touching the lives of people, we break down barriers and make a difference, even in small but always significant ways.

“I am humbled by this spirit of nursing that thrives at Sonoma Valley Hospital. It is evident in the kindness of our volunteers, the collaborative spirit of our staff and doctors and it is visible in the work of our clinicians. I would like to invite all of us to celebrate this transformative spirit this week.

And Hospital Week!  Take a moment during this week and let someone know how much you appreciate them, let us keep this amazing spirit of nursing alive as we continue our journey to become one team: Team Sonoma Valley Hospital!”

Happy Nurses’ Week. I am proud to work with you!”
