“Shoulder Health: Injury Prevention and Restoring Function” Is Topic Of May SVH “Conversation With A Doctor”April 15, 2019
Orthopedic Surgeon Paul B. Roache, MD will discuss how to prevent rotator cuff injuries and share what invasive and non-invasive treatment options are available at the next Sonoma Valley Hospital “Conversation With A Doctor” information session.
Well-functioning shoulder rotator cuffs are essential to perform every-day activities such as brushing our hair and overhead reaching as well as many sports such as swimming and tennis. Repetition and aging can have an impact on our shoulders and the muscles and tendons that support them. Rotator cuff injury is the most common cause of shoulder pain, particularly for those over the age of 30. Fortunately there are ways to prevent rotator cuff injuries and new ways to repair them and restore their functioning.
Dr. Roache will discuss the anatomy of shoulder rotator cuff and explain common injuries, symptoms, and treatments. Joining him will be Marek Grzybowski from Sonoma Valley Hospital’s Outpatient Physical Therapy Department, to demonstrate preventative and rehabilitative exercises to strengthen shoulder muscles and improve range of motion.
The talk will be held on Friday, May 10 in the Hospital’s Basement Conference Room, from 11:00 am – noon. There is no charge and the number of attendees will be limited to allow for informal discussion and audience questions, so RSVPs are requested. To reserve a space, please contact Celia Kruse de la Rosa at 707.935.5257 or by email to [email protected].
Dr. Roache is board certified in both orthopedic surgery and orthopedic sports medicine. He completed his fellowship training in shoulder joint replacement surgery and later completed a fellowship in rotator cuff surgery. He shifted his practice specialty from shoulder joint replacement surgery to rotator cuff repair surgery.
